Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Improves First Time Through Yield by 40%

Challenge

Testing products for conformance to specification is an essential aspect of production that our client didn’t have. They needed in-line and end-of-line testing to ensure that every product that left the plant was safe and high-functioning. The OEM challenged our IM team to develop test equipment that met several goals:

  1. Provide operators with the capability to troubleshoot electric problems in the machine
  2. Ability to validate all controllers and motors during installation
  3. Identify part damages
  4. Add traceability of operating parameters and serialized components
  5. Increase first-time-through yield

Solution

To meet these goals, we implemented our MES product, IntelliWORKS. IntelliWORKS brought our client assembly line error proofing, component traceability, and three electrical test points along the line. It pushed assembly traceability information to the ERP so the organization could manage the warranty claim process.

IntelliWORKS met and exceeded our client’s goals. It improved first-time through yield capabilities by 40%. It’s success drove our client to implement the solution on other production lines in the plant.
