Pyramid Solutions is pleased to announce we have released version 5.3.1 of our EtherNet/IP Stack Development and DLL kits!

Client products will be more assured of passing ODVA’s CT19 conformance test as we have added required features and updates to the stacks that span the base stacks, CIP Security options and CIP Safety option.

Our NetStaX EtherNet/IP Stack solutions benefit product developers by doing the heavy lifting of implementing EtherNet/IP, allowing them to focus on their product and application. The result… your EtherNet/IP enabled products are brought to market faster, with less stress and developmental hardships.

Version 5.3.1 updates impact the following products and options:

Updates to General Stack Functionality and for CT19 Conformance:

When Pyramid Solutions plans for updates to the stack products, we review queued stack code updates that impact general stack functionality (this includes user suggested updates and input from engineering), newly required features, as determined by the ODVA, and necessary updates to pass the latest ODVA CT19 Composite Test (CT).

The selected updates are introduced to the stack products and full regression testing is performed, along with pre-conformance testing, using the latest ODVA CT tool, and pre-interoperability testing using Pyramid’s EDITT Tool (EtherNet/IP Device Interoperability Test Tool – used to automate the PlugFest Adapter tests).

The stack products are released once all tests have been completed successfully and stack documentation and examples have been updated as needed.

The latest stack versions are then placed on the download site, so they are accessible to customers that are eligible for access to the latest stack versions.

The stack release notes contain a history of updates made to the stack products for each release.  The release notes are available on the download page with the stack product installer.

LLDP Feature Introduction

Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) enables network nodes and infrastructure components to detect other nodes in near proximity, and to discover the physical network topology for mapping and visualization.

As of May 2022, the ODVA requires that EtherNet/IP enabled products provide LLDP functionality (see the ODVA updated specification requirements for mandatory and conditional LLDP requirements).

Essentially, multiport devices are now required to support receiving and transmitting LLDP information based on the ODVA requirements.

For v5.3.1, Pyramid Solutions has added the following additions to the stack products:

  • LLDP Management Object (0x109)
  • LLDP Data Table Object (Ox10A)
  • Example code that demonstrates listening for and transmitting LLDP packets in Linux and Windows environments.

Note: The stack products do not include underlying LLDP or SNMP functionality, which the Customer must provide.

CIP Security Updates

CIP Security was introduced several years ago to the ODVA Specification and is an evolving technology.

CIP Security is now being adopted by an ever-expanding range of product OEMs due to customer demand and the evolving security risks for Industrial Ethernet.

For version 5.3.1, Pyramid has updated our CIP Security option general functionality and added additional mandatory features as defined by ODVA.

Our stack testing includes ODVA CT Testing for CIP Security.

Pyramid Solutions also offers a full range of EtherNet/IP consulting and development services to ensure your product is conformant and delivers the EtherNet/IP features you and your customers demand.
